Email from Woo

We got our diagnostic (or assessment) test back today in Chem, and I did relatively well, albeit quite badly if compared with an absolute perspective. I missed 16 questions: all of acids and bases, most of solutions, equilibrium, etc.

And I go home, and check my email at 4 PM and see this from Mr. Woo:

HI JING HAO

GREAT JOB ON THE ASSESSMENT TEST….LIKE I SAID WE NEEDED TO FINISH OFF THOSE LAST FEW CHAPTERS

And if you’re wondering how he has my email, try to recall my messed up printer. Every other line the printer alternates between pink and purple, never in black (monochrome), and yet, the black ink is constantly depleted when I print. I have no idea why. Anyway, because of the aforementioned, I emailed my whole Honors Project to him last year.

I’m getting offtopic…

So how did you AP Chem students fare?

Gee, I’m famous

08/27 14:46:04 kluftern3: hey08/27 14:46:16 Me: You are …?
08/27 14:46:25 kluftern3: kevin’s friend
08/27 14:46:29 Me: Ok.
08/27 14:46:29 kluftern3: jonathan
08/27 14:46:38 Me: Do you want anything?
08/27 14:48:06 kluftern3: yes in fact i do
08/27 14:48:13 Me: what is it?
08/27 14:48:16 kluftern3: u had woo last yr rite?
08/27 14:48:31 Me: Yes.
08/27 14:48:38 Me: And this year for AP chem.
08/27 14:48:45 kluftern3: how do u make the cube wit one piece of paper?
08/27 14:49:10 kluftern3: the liter cube thingy
08/27 14:49:43 Me: oh
08/27 14:49:49 Me: damn it, he mentioned me, didn’t he? He compliments me a little too much
08/27 14:50:12 kluftern3: yup
08/27 14:50:17 Me: what grade are you in?
08/27 14:50:18 kluftern3: yea he saids ur brilliant
08/27 14:50:20 kluftern3: soph
08/27 14:50:23 Me: oh
08/27 14:50:27 kluftern3: ya
08/27 14:50:31 kluftern3: so how do u do it?
08/27 14:50:52 Me: well, think about it. Circles have the smallest perimeter to area ratio, and so does its 3d equivalent spheres.
08/27 14:50:53 Me: right?
08/27 14:51:04 kluftern3: sure
08/27 14:51:11 Me: Therefore, the best you can do with what you got can be done with a cylinder
08/27 14:51:16 Me: A paper is how wide and how long?
08/27 14:51:22 kluftern3: i ono
08/27 14:51:24 kluftern3: hmm
08/27 14:51:56 Me: Look, get a cm ruler
08/27 14:52:01 Me: measure the length and width
08/27 14:52:31 kluftern3: 26.6 x 20.3 cm
08/27 14:52:37 Me: >_>
08/27 14:52:44 Me: I don’t trust that. I’ll measure it myself
08/27 14:52:53 Me: damn I don’t have a ruler
08/27 14:52:54 kluftern3: well it says so on the fuking packaging
08/27 14:53:02 kluftern3: so im guessing its rite
08/27 14:53:36 Me: >_>
08/27 14:53:38 Me: anyway
08/27 14:53:45 kluftern3: ok
08/27 14:53:45 Me: it’s 28 cm by 23~ cm
08/27 14:53:51 Me: all you need to know is 28 cm
08/27 14:54:05 kluftern3: uh huh
08/27 14:54:10 kluftern3: soo…
08/27 14:54:12 Me: that length is the circumference of the planar representation of the cylinder.
08/27 14:54:21 Me: So 2pi R is the circumference right? Of course, so solve for R
08/27 14:54:29 kluftern3: yes
08/27 14:54:38 kluftern3: i thought we had to make a cube
08/27 14:54:45 Me: PI x R^2 x H = 1000; solve for H
08/27 14:54:54 Me: He didn’t say cube
08/27 14:54:57 kluftern3: rlly?
08/27 14:55:05 Me: he said anything that represents 1000 CM^3
08/27 14:55:11 kluftern3: o ic
08/27 14:55:31 kluftern3: well how do u do the ends of the cylinder?
08/27 14:56:01 Me: >_

Glasses

I just got my new glasses today, which replaces the pair I lost in DC two months ago while on my vacation in the east coast. Same prescription and stuff, but with an older frame.

At least I’m not as blind as a bat now. (I was about to say cat, which rhymes with bat, but I realized cats generally have one of the best visions in the animal kingdom)

Yay!

Some other weird fact

About my cousin. He was wearing a black shirt that says “I gave up drinking, smoking and sex. That was the worst 15 minutes of my life.”

I asked him, and he … was asking me for a translation… And I said I can’t explain in either Chinese or Japanese. How do you say sex in Chinese or Japanese? Help?

My Prime Number Calculator Stats

I forgot to give the execution statistics for my prime number calculator a few weeks ago. Err, that is, if anyone cares… But here it goes:

antilog # of Primes Total Calculations Runtime in Seconds
------- ----------- ------------------ ------------------
      8 5,761,455 1,931,722,630 172.60
      7 664,579 276,809,518 8.11
      6 78,498 13,005,901 .45
      5 9,592 654,029 *~0.005
      4 1,229 34,983 *~0.0003
      3 168 1,970 *~0.00002
      2 25 107 *~0.0000008
      1 4 3 *~0.00000003

The * would indicate that it’s so small the time calculator can’t precisely count how long it took. The “calculations required” is the minimal I can achieve. That is the deciding factor (along with the type of arithmetic operations used) in the speed of the whole execution.

My algorithms are pretty efficient, but aren’t completely optimized. If anyone whose dad or mom is a computer scientist can give me some advice, feel free to :P I certainly am happy I beat my dad’s program that took 4 hours to calculate up to log(x) = 5.

x would be the number up to which the prime numbers were calculated… And if you remember, the default base of a logarithmic function is ten… so… log(100,000) is log(1 x 10^5), which equals 5. Right? Good. Concept review :P

Whohoo!

My cousin who has lived in Japan for most of his life, has just come here from New York! Yay!

He’s 19, I think… Damn. I should know this…

He’s wearing a cap that says “FUCKIN’ FREEZIN” … I guess .. it’s … part of Japanese culture?

Another one: Marijuana flavored milk?

I too wonder what the milk would taste like…

Check this out

It’s awesome. Now we won’t have to worry about losing battery power while on road trips…

We can just urinate into the battery for power :)

You’re welcome

You’re welcome. My delayed coming was unintentional, however. At about 12:35, I was ready to go bike to school for the registration, hoping to arrive a little bit early to finish early. (Arriving 10 minutes early may save me 30 minutes afterwards, ya know)… But…

I saw my front tire was … flat, so I ran around my house looking for superglue - Yes, superglue. I didn’t have any other ideas - just to be disappointed when I found it; it was completely dry. I tried to squish the thing, but nothing came out.

So, I ran to my garage, and found some “household cement”, and applied that to my bike tire. It took a while to dry, and after like half an hour I came out, pumped air into the tire, and the cement just popped. So I decided to just screw this and ride to school on the temporary air in the tire.

And yes, the air was almost completely gone when it was time to go home, so I decided to walk… err run. Imagine a short kid running home with a black backpack, holding a pencil in one hand and a calculator in the other…

My photo icon

For those of you asking me why the hell I have a picture of my rabbit’s face instead of my own, ask yourselves this: Is my face more pleasing to the eye or the rabbit’s? It seems obvious right? :P
I figured it’s a lot cuter than anyone and anything we normally look at… Isn’t it just adorable? That is, except when it gets angry and bites you for not feeding it for a few days.

My rabbit’s probably the cutest little thing I’ve seen on the planet Earth. If anyone should try to contend with that, it’ll bite your head off.

One thing I dislike about this is the inability to post my own smilies without uploading pics.
